Staffordshire County Council are trialling rental e-scooters in two areas of Staffordshire.
The trials taking place in Stafford Borough and Newcastle Under Lyme Borough are part of a programme of national trials in conjunction with the Department for Transport (DFT).
They will test rental e-scooters as a viable transport option and offer an alternative to more traditional types of transport like buses, cars and taxis.
The trials will run for a period of 12 months until October 2021 and will be assessed by the DFT within that time.
Silverdale is seen as a key location to test shorter and semi-rural journeys within the trial and will test micromobility in that area.
Riders must have a minimum of a provisional licence to hire one of the scooters and are encouraged to wear a helmet when riding.
They must also be over 16 years of age and are restricted to roads and cycle paths and tracks.
It is illegal to ride on pavements unless a designated cycle lane or shared cycle lane.
Irresponsible riders can be fined and receive points on their licence.
Staffordshire Police are supporting the trials and will enforcement measures will be taken if necessary.
